Placeholder images for mockups, wireframes, and front-end work
Create a placeholder image at any size up to 4000px per side, with a solid, gradient, or checker background and your own colors and text. The preview updates instantly, and you can download PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG files or copy a hotlink URL from Next BConvert, Lorem Picsum, Placehold.co, or DummyImage with ready-to-paste code.
How to generate a placeholder image
- 1.Enter a width and height in pixels, or pick a preset such as Avatar, Card, Hero, Twitter Card, or YouTube thumbnail.
- 2.Choose a solid, gradient, or checker background, set the colors, and optionally type custom text — leave it blank to show the dimensions automatically.
- 3.Watch the live preview update with every change. Nothing is uploaded; the image is drawn locally on a canvas.
- 4.Download the placeholder as PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG, or copy a hotlink URL — Next BConvert, Lorem Picsum, Placehold.co, or DummyImage — with a ready-to-paste HTML, Markdown, JSX, CSS, or BBCode snippet.
- 5.Click Retina 1×/2×/3× to download three copies of the same placeholder for srcset on high-DPI screens.
What this placeholder generator supports
Choose solid colors, two-color gradients, or a checker background, with independent colors for the background and the text.
The canvas preview re-renders with every keystroke, so you see the exact result before downloading or copying anything.
Download as PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG, or copy the image as a base64 data URL.
Build a hotlink URL with the exact size you set from four services: Next BConvert serves it from your own domain, Lorem Picsum returns a random real photo, and Placehold.co or DummyImage serve external solid-color placeholders.
Copy ready-to-paste HTML, Markdown, JSX, CSS, or BBCode snippets that carry the exact dimensions you set.
Everything runs in the browser. Your size, colors, and text never leave your device.
Placeholder image generator FAQ
What sizes can I generate?
Any size from 1×1 up to 4000×4000 pixels per side. Use the width and height fields for exact dimensions, or pick a preset such as Avatar (200×200), Card (400×300), Hero 16:9 (1920×1080), Twitter Card (1200×630), or Instagram (1080×1080).
What does the aspect lock do?
Turning on Lock aspect keeps the width-to-height ratio fixed: change one side and the other updates to match. It is useful when you need a responsive set of the same crop, like 1×, 2×, and 3× versions for srcset.
What background styles are available?
Solid fills the image with one color. Gradient blends the background and secondary colors diagonally. Checker draws a two-color checkerboard, which helps visualize how transparency will render in designs that overlay the image.
Can I add custom text to the placeholder?
Yes. Type any text up to 80 characters and it is drawn centered on the image, shrinking automatically to fit the placeholder width. Leave the field blank to show the dimensions (for example 600 × 400) instead.
Which formats can I download?
PNG keeps transparency, JPG and WebP produce smaller files for web use, and SVG stays sharp at any display size. You can also copy the image as a base64 data URL to paste directly into HTML or CSS.
What does the Retina 1×/2×/3× button do?
It downloads three PNG copies of the current placeholder at 1×, 2×, and 3× scale, named like placeholder-600x400.png and placeholder-600x400@2x.png, ready to use in srcset attributes for high-DPI screens.
What is the difference between Next BConvert, Lorem Picsum, Placehold.co, and DummyImage?
Next BConvert serves the placeholder from the /api/placeholder endpoint on nextbconvert.com, so it matches the preview exactly and stays on your own domain. Lorem Picsum returns a random real photograph at the requested dimensions, which suits realistic mockups. Placehold.co and DummyImage serve external solid-color rectangles with the dimensions printed in the center, which suit wireframes. Pick whichever fits where the image will be used.
Is my placeholder data uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is drawn entirely in your browser on a canvas. There is no upload step, and your size, colors, and text are not sent to any server.
